Reduce static buildup for a flat, flawless paint finish It's no secret that dust and static can ruin a great paint job. While the surface may look clean and dust-free when you start, as soon as the paint starts flying, dust and debris are drawn towards the surface because of the metal's natural static change (think of the way your clothes cling to your body if you didn't use static guard or a dryer sheet). Your only hope for repairing these flaws is to wet sand or buff the areas flat in the next step. The problem often gets worse in the winter months, as there is dramatically less humidity in the air. Add to that a shop heater or space heater that further dries out the air, and you're just asking for trouble.
