How will waterborne paint affect the refinishing market?

The short answer is that it won’t. At least not now. While many companies have introduced really strong performing waterborne basecoats, there hasn’t been much success with waterborne clears. So, what you’ll find is that even if the car has been sprayed with waterborne primer and base, there’s a good chance it’s still top coated with the same old solvent-based clears that we all know and are familiar working with. Therefore, you can continue to use our entire line of compounds, worry free!

As for the future, Presta is proactively establishing relationships with several of the major paint companies to stay ahead of the curve. When (and if) the major paint companies are able to develop a waterborne clear that they’re ready to release to the public, we’ll be ready. And you can trust that we’ll have thoroughly tested to make sure that our compounds are fit for use on the new breed of clears.
